Description

BOXCON is NOT a Traditional Conference.

“I didn’t just learn how to deliver the B❒X, I found my tribe.”

It’s a working experience for B❒X Facilitators—new and experienced—to reconnect with the B❒X, learn from each other, and help shape where the work goes from here.

Over three days, you’ll experience the newest evolution of the B❒X, explore how we can create change beyond the workshop, and work alongside other facilitators to develop, test, and share new ideas.

BOXCON is intentionally interactive. You won’t spend three days sitting in rows listening to presentations.

You’ll experience, discuss, prototype, challenge, pitch, and experiment thinking your way in and out of the box.

Keep BOXY Weird

Austin has a slogan… Keep Austin Weird.

We can relate.

We put B❒Xes on people’s heads so they can learn how to think out of them.

We use paper, pens and human conversation instead of apps and AI.

And we believe some of the best learning happens when people stop being an audience and start co-creating.

So no, BOXCON Austin won’t be a typical conference, and that’s rather the point.

Just like Austin wants to stay weird… we invite you to help us keep the B❒X weird too.

BOXCON brings together people at different points in their B❒X journey.

For experienced B❒X Facilitators, it’s an opportunity to:

  • Refresh your certification experience
  • Experience the newest evolution of the B❒X
  • Compare approaches with other facilitators
  • Share what you’ve learned from real-world application
  • Explore new ways to use the B❒X
  • Help shape what comes next

For those completing their B❒X Certification, it’s an opportunity to:

  • Complete Step Four of your certification in a live setting
  • Experience the newest B❒X delivery firsthand
  • Learn alongside facilitators already using it
  • Build confidence through practice, observation, and conversation
  • Leave connected to the B❒X Facilitator community

The combination creates a different kind of learning environment—one where experience, perspective, and application are shared in real time.

“I came to learn how to facilitate the B❒X… and left ready to go deeper than I expected.”

Day 1: Certification Experience (Step Four)

Experience the B❒X Experiment

The B❒X Experiment is the most recent framing for The B❒X. It shifts the emphasis from experiencing a breakthrough in the workshop, to experimenting with how to make sustainable change.

Whether you’re completing your certification or returning for a refresh, we’ll begin by experiencing the newest evolution of the methodology together: The B❒X Experiment.

You’ll go through the experience first as a participant, using the latest delivery approach.

Then we’ll step behind the methodology.

We’ll contrast and compare The B❒X Experiment with The B❒X Experience—exploring what each framework does well, when you might choose one over the other, and how the framing can change depending on the people, context, and outcomes you’re working with.

For new facilitators, Day 1 completes the live Step Four certification experience.

For experienced facilitators, it’s a chance to refresh your practice, experience what’s changing firsthand, and explore how the new approach might fit into your own work.

Welcome Dinner

We’ll close Day 1 around the table. Dinner is included with your BOXCON registration.

Day 2: From the in-room experience to real-world experiments that create lasting change.

A powerful workshop can create insight, energy, and new possibilities.

But then what?

How do we help people take what happened inside the room and turn it into meaningful change outside it?

Guest B❒X Facilitator: Karen Ball

Karen Ball will kick off Day 2 with a provocative session on what happens when The B❒X meets ADKAR in delivering sustainable change in people, teams and organizations.

From Ideas to Prototypes

Then we’ll move from discussion to experimentation.

In the afternoon, we’ll break into groups and develop practical prototypes for helping change continue beyond the workshop.

And because this is BOXCON, we won’t just put our ideas into PowerPoint, we’ll build them on B❒Xes.

Welcome to the Marketplace

Each team will turn its prototype into a sales board and pitch its idea to the rest of the community.

Everyone will receive resource checks representing the time, technology, expertise, connections, and other resources they might be willing to contribute.

See an idea you want to help make real?

Invest in it.

By the end of the marketplace, teams won’t just have an idea. They’ll know whether others believe in it—and potentially have some literal buy-in from people willing to help move it forward.

In the Marketplace of Ideas you will sell and buy ideas with other B❒X Facilitators.

Optional Austin Activity

After a full day of creating together, we’ll head out for an optional Austin experience.

Details will be confirmed closer to BOXCON.

Day 3: Open B❒X Conversations

Issues and Opportunities to Grow the B❒X

“I was afraid after two days there wouldn’t be any topics left to discuss…WOW was I wrong.”

Day 3 uses an Open Space format—the agenda is created by the people in the room around the questions, challenges, and opportunities that matter most.

There are no predetermined breakout tracks.

Bring something you want to explore. Start a conversation. Join someone else’s.

Topics might include new B❒X applications, marketing, client challenges, delivery ideas, business models, experiments, tools—or something none of us has thought of yet.

In the morning, we focus on thinking OUT of the B❒X—opening up possibilities, questions, and ideas.

In the afternoon, we shift to thinking IN to a Better B❒X—capturing insights, identifying next steps, and deciding what is worth taking beyond BOXCON.

We’ll close the experience together with a final reflection and clear next steps for the community.

“Learning alongside experienced facilitators changed how I see what’s possible with the B❒X.”

Farewell Dinner

We’ll finish BOXCON together over dinner. Dinner is included with your registration.

Our Austin Home

Emerald Tavern Games & Cafe

9012 Research Blvd #1
Austin, TX 78758

A board-game tavern seems like an appropriately unconventional home for BOXCON Austin.

Instead of a traditional hotel conference environment, we’ll have a setting built around playing, interacting, and spending time together—exactly the kind of environment we want for three days of experimenting, creating, and connecting.

Where to Stay

We recommend staying in the Arboretum/Domain area northwest of Emerald Tavern.

While you are free to stay where you like, we’ve selected several nearby hotels at different price points in the same general area.
